The scheme of the book is interesting, it traces the history of the pension system from its inception in early Anglo-Saxon time when married soldiers were given grants of land, through the Elizabethan period, when every parish was compelled to contribute to the weekly relief of disabled soldiers and mariners, and finally deals with the modern complicated and heavy pension schemes.
